A yacht as escape plan has always been among the best options, but there are differences what you can do and where you can get depending on the kind of yacht you own.
Let me continue to propose the "captain nemo float out" it is basicly building a "better yacht" that can stay in open ocean for long periods of time.
Yachts can not stay in open ocean for long periods of time as the wave action makes staying there quite uncomfortable.
Yachts are also built from materials that impose "light building" as principal design feature. This goes bad with basic seasteading needs like big tank volumes and store of big amounts of goods like food, spare parts, tools, fuel, water and similar.
In general a yacht is built for living in a marina and make short trips of no more than a few days crossing open water in favorable weather conditions.
We propose (and already tested) a vehicle that is the technical equivlent of a whale. A very heavy almost completly submerged body wandering worldwide at a speed of 7 knots with incredible low energy needs, capeable to live on resouces and opportunities that come up seasonally at thousands of miles distance.
This vehicle would be about "apartment size" hold a adequate living space for a single family be equally comfortable in harbor or at open sea, avoiding wave movements by cruising most of the time in snorkel mode. It would provide "leave coffee cup on the table comfort" even in the worst imaginable sea conditions.
It would be the "workhorse" of a new generation of ocean explorers and settlers who engage in activities like open water pod fishfarming, tuna rearing, wreck salvage, scuba tourism, mineral explotation, scientific data collection, tourism and similar.
This workhorse would be almost completly independent of infrastructure.

the sea might be the only good source of food...so a sub yacht--u can even yous solar or wind power torecharge batts, and algae fuels are now becomeing populer...

The problem if a real desaster strikes is that food, transport, medic, all infrastructure is gone. So if help will not come - moving out of the desaster zone is the only possible way to safety.
Making it out over land with what you can carry on your back is incredibly difficult.
A sub yacht gives you blast, radiation, impact, temperature, protection, equivalent or superior to an underground bunker, AND mobility to move out, after the desaster to find a better place to live. No land bunker can give you that.
It provides a store capacity that exceeds any surface yacht...
yes exactly...land survival there will be pillaging killing etc--once people get hungry they will start to kill for what they need...only those with stealth will survive--a surface vessel offers little protetion as well--there will be those with fuel stores- ones who have saved fuel for this time and they will use that to hunt down other vessels that are crippled by lack of wind or fuel...they will become pirates..but the submarine can dive to safety and last longer on the same amount of fuel..plus the hull of a sub by nature is resistant to bullets...

When you have a sub you can salvage canned food from container shipwrecks and you have enough storage room on a 18m boat to store a year supply. You can travel worldwide to avoid hungry pirates in comfort and absolute protection...
The boat we built for Ian 18 x 4,6 m can carry about 100 tons of supply (this is the weight of 4 eighteen wheeler trucks) - its concrete walls are 30cm thick reinforced concrete - that is bunker quality protection.
Even if 2012 is a non event - a submarine yacht would still be the better kind of yacht considering the sea sickness free cruising and the safety it gives to its crew in case of Draupner Events - odd enough freak waves are a kind of "normal ocean condition" that can happen about 5 times a year or so.
You would not like to make front to such a event in anything less than a submarine yacht.

I investigated Draupner a bit and it seems like any structure on the ocean should be built to be run over by a wave in the 20m size class every now and then - this seems to bring naval engineering into a delicate situation as not anything floating currently out there is made for a design wave height of 20m or above.
The bulk carrier in this video is simply overwashed by waves.
This expains the great care that classification societies put on mac gregor hatches. Any surface ship will turn into a semisubmersible in certain conditions.

Hello Shred, welcome to the forum. As this is the 2012 event thread we need to talk about major waves, possibly bigger than the Draupner wave. A cube structure with a weight hanging below would definitly be moved so much that the weight would collide with the structure and convert into a sort of wrecking ball.
There is no way to leave the structure and board another vessel in close proximity under such conditions - only life boats that can be dropped, rolled over, overwashed and submerged have a chance to make it.
Your Berg is a nice concept for clustering single family seasteads inside of Breakwater Marina, for spaces protected by natural reefs, where Draupner Waves do not happen.
For the open ocean where they DO happen you need to go Big - so big that a draupner wave of 20 m is still small compared to the structure.
You need to go up in the air - for example a spar concept so high that not even a Draupner wave can reach the living space area.
Or you need to go submerged. The hazardious impact of waves can not reach you below the surface...

As a student, I know how challenging it can be to juggle multiple assignments, exams, and extracurricular activities. Sometimes, it can be overwhelming to complete all the tasks within the given deadline, especially when it comes to writing academic papers. That's why I decided tobuy custom term papers, and I must say that it was the best decision I ever made. For me, BestCustomWriting is a lifesaver. Nothing can better help students who are struggling to balance their academic and personal lives. The first experience was a bit stressful and exciting, but the result finally reassured me.
