Oceanic City The Siph, a new underwater settlement east of Sydney with similar characteristics to traditional Australia cities. Strings of detached small pod like clusters, similar to natural kelp and coral compositions, occupy shallow water zones whilst larger jellyfish structures float in the ocean with their long tenticles suspended in the depths below. The mobile city is able to evolve with its context, enabling refuge from the intensified weather patterns above by submerging to calmer waters, an action accommodated by the pressure resistant spherical forms of the pod like settlement. The new forms have learnt from their natural counterparts enabling not only the housing of their citizens in an environment protected from the violent conditions above but also allow the extraction of fresh water from the salty sea water. Nutrient is produced locally using hydroponic systems whilst energy is sourced from renewable ocean based sources including ocean currents, waves tides and winds. Although the settlement is removed from the physical land mass of Australia, lily pad like upper decks enable access to the sky above and provide communal spaces large enough to accommodate traditional cultural rituals such as the national sport of AFL football.
