oceanic drift aquaculture system, submarine yacht, living space

We live on a oceanic planet 70% of the surface is water. 99% of the space volume available for human activities is water. Human activities as they are at the moment (6 billion humans get food from agriculture ) are not sustainable (agriculture areas need to be cut back to avoid mass extincion of species to continue) Fishing of wildstock in the oceans is in free fall. In the next 30 years another 3 billion humans will be added to the human headcount. There is no agriculture area on land that can possibly produce the food that is needed. The only thing that can be be applied in the giant scale necessary with low a ambient impact, that can replace agriculture, and absorb 3 billion additional people to feed, is aquaculture in the open ocean taking advantage of that 99% of planetary volume that is “not used yet” at the moment. This is the “quest of titanic proportions” of “feeding the world”, Neil Sims and his coworkers have opened with their ocean farming technology. We are at CERO now and we need to get to “ocean food for 9 billion” in less than 30 years to come. This is not a choice it is a survivl need. This “giant marine business comming in” should be worth some investor attention, some discussion on the forums i assume…and it will definitly lead to ocean colonization and permanent living on the ocean, beyond oceanic transport.

This is how 99% of the “space volume available to human activity” looks like. In 30 years from now we have 9 billion people – land based resources on the continents can only sustain some 4 billion of them. The “rest” of 5 billion need to cover their nutrition needs, their housing needs, and the production needs for their laptops and consumer goods entirely in this “currently not touched space”. Sounds strange ? it is inevitable.

World population growing 1 billon per decade…Graph from ice age to modern times. If we do not unleash the agricultural power of the ocean in the next few years human development on earth becomes unsustainable…only ocean drift cages are a technology at reach that can get us there…

Only the nutrition of those 5 billion overflow population that can not be placed on the continents will require a “oceanic meat/fish industry” that produces 500 billion kg of meat/fish per year. To wrap your head around the number this is hundred million ship loads full of fish…per YEAR !!! all this industry needs to pop up in the next years to avoid starvation. This is a heck of an industry that surley will lead to some kind of permanent settlement on the oceans…

Ken Sims, any “educated guess” how this billion dollar industry of oceanic drift cages can be kicked off, how it will be structured, what kind of “upfront investment” a “typical ocean farmer” would face to be part of this industry ? What is the minimum cage volume a “farmer” would need to make a living out of this business. What are the challanges of the pioneer life a ocean farmer needs to be up to ? Your experiences?

interior picture submarine yacht

Aquaculture towns at sea picture it something like that…
A “thousands of shiploads per day industry” does not only create an industry for building the cages, it creates an industry for distribution of the product (a additional branch of oceanic transport) it creates an industry for building the ships that will transport that fish, and certainly it creates a building industry for building the houses on the ocean the workers that run that that business will live in…so it will create “aquaculture towns” at sea there is just no way around it…

Two points left in the Velella project:

1) A better vehicle than a sailboat for the crew. This mobile living space that can follow the drift cage while giving full comfort to the crew in open ocean should be built along the lines of the BEN FRANKLIN

2) Soy been based fish food needs to replaced by something that comes from the base of the oceanic food chain...

Oceanic drift aquaculture systems represent an innovative approach to sustainable food production, harnessing the vast potential of the ocean's currents. Coupled with the concept of a submarine yacht, this technology opens up exciting possibilities for creating self-sufficient living spaces on the open sea. Imagine a floating sanctuary where residents can enjoy the tranquility of the ocean while cultivating their own food sources. To learn more about this fascinating intersection of technology and eco-conscious living, visit and view website dedicated to exploring the future of oceanic drift aquaculture systems and submarine yachts.
