Business Plan Strategy and Implementation

Introducing a product innovation program is a crucial factor in enhancing the ability of a company to sustain the long-term competitive advantage. The development of a new product is a resource-consuming aspect in the strategy-making process of a business entity (Bessant & Phillips, 2013). Importantly, the phenomenon of new product development puts emphasis on systems, which provide frequency, speed, variety, and quality of customization and response (Bessant & Francis, 2013). The plausible fact is that new product development is the essential stage of a product innovation program, which in turn outlines the entire modernization policy of a company. Thus, a successful product innovation program requires a solid approach to achieve success in the market. Drawing upon the Tenet Healthcare Business Plan, the intent of the current paper is to map out a strategy for the development and implementation of a mobile and web application.

Accordance to the studies in the field of innovation policy, the Stage-Gate approach to the development and implementation of a new product has vital importance for success of an innovation program (Bessant & Francis, 2013). Product innovation is a key driving force of competitive advantage, which requires ongoing control in order to provide a company with payoffs on a regular basis in the future. Moreover, the successful implementation of a new product is dependent on vigilantly mapped out process design. Importantly, the Stage-Gate approach outlines the stages and sequence of the process design. Thus, the Stage-Gate process consists of the following consecutive steps: (1) project plan development, (2) product development, (3) product approvement and (4) manufacture launching (Bessant & Francis, 2013).

Firstly, in the case of a mobile and web application, it is necessary to compose a team, which will elaborate a project plan (Bessant & Phillips, 2013). The team should be a synthesis of cross-functional departments involved in the development of new product. The upshot is that the product innovation process is a wide and complex activity enlisting the services of various departments within the framework of the company. The new team should represent a set of skills, knowledge, and experience necessary for detecting strengths and weakness of a project plan. Particularly, it is mandatory to carry out a critical analysis of the current and anticipated market tendencies and trends, especially in the long-term perspective. In the case of a mobile and web application, there are favorable preconditions for a long-term demand growth. The reason is that the uncertainties in the U.S. healthcare and recent amendments in the legislation will motivate consumers to looking for alternatives. Thus, the current project can capitalize on the changes through improving the quality of services and cost-effectiveness. The assessment of a project plan should also include benchmarking of top performing companies and consulting specialists in the field.

Secondly, to achieve formidable performance results, the team should work under the guidance of a sober-minded leader (Cummings & Worley, 2014). The appropriateness of a leadership style defines the fact that all the particularities of the team are taken into account. A team leader should consider the level of intra-team industriousness and dedication. The success in the implementation of Stage-Gate process depends on the extent to which team members are encouraged by their leader. Should the Stage Gate process have poor development stage, the probability of fixing it will be very low. Moreover, the undesired results reached in the end will render the project failure and a company will find itself in the need of redesigning and re-launching, which entails not only extra expenditures from a company's budget, but also provides competitors with a great opportunity to shoot ahead.

Thirdly, the development of a new product requires the involvement of appropriate resources such as experts on the subject (Cummings & Worley, 2014). To make a mobile and web application work without delays and errors, the team should consult experienced specialists or consider outsourcing. Additionally, to pass the stage of product approval, the new web application must undergo testing. The management should address and fix any detected malfunctions. Successful testing is the final stage of a strategic implementation approach designated to reach top managements approval. The confirmation that a new product functions properly with low probability of failure is irrefutable proof that the project plan is successful and reaches the strategically important goal.

Finally, the last stage mediates between the new product and its entry into the market. It entails manufacture lunching (Bessant & Phillips, 2013). After the responsible executives have made a favorable decision on the new product, the manufacturing plan becomes of prime priority. The plan must meet the market requirements and make lasting impression on consumers in order to provide a company with profits in the long-run prospects.

In conclusions, the Stage-Gate to the development and implementation of a novelty is the instrumental approach, which is underpinned by numerous studies in the field of new product development. Although the specific features of a company requires applying necessary corrections, the Stage-Gate approach is a pillar of the innovation policy in organizations. It outlines the fundamental principles of successful innovation activity.
