This is your first opportunity to sign up for Medicare. The enrollment period runs from 3 months before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday, and ends 3 months after. The total enrollment window is 7 months for Original Medicare
General Enrollment Period (GEP)
The GEP runs from January 1 - to March 31. Coverage won’t begin until July 1.
Special Enrollment Period (SEP)
The special enrollment period is available to those who were covered under their employer’s insurance during their Initial Enrollment period or for those who qualify for special circumstances.
Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)
The annual enrollment period runs from October 15th - to December 7th. During this plan, you can add, drop, or switch between Medicare Advantage, Medigap plans, or original Medicare.
Open Enrollment Period (OEP)
This enrollment period is also known as the Medicare Advantage Open period. You need to already be enrolled in an MA plan. Timeframe for this is January 1 - March 31.
