House building in Bhutan

I visited Buhtan some years ago, & this was a house under construction, but before painting, which is very elaborate and colorful. Traditionally, farmhouses were three stories, with the ground floor for the animals, which provided heat. Floors are wood planks fit tightly across the joists, with no fasteners. Roofs are large wood shakes, held down with with wood cross pieces weighted with stones, but metal roofs are common as well. Also, for outbuildings, woven mats of split bamboo. Several layers keep the water out, even 'tho you can see through. Chilies are a staple food, and are often seen drying on rooftops.

Wow, Bhutan sounds fascinating! The traditional architecture and building techniques you described are so interesting. It must have been amazing to see the intricate details of the houses under construction. And chilies drying on rooftops? That's a unique sight!
Speaking of building process, can you guys help me to find a London based painter and decorator? I'm renovating my living room, and I don't want to paint and decorate myself. Please share your recommendations!
