I just got this from amazon. It's by Desi Serna. Seems like there's a lot of good theory in it but not sure how it will help me play the specific style I wish to play, i.e. Death Metal.

You could probably find an old electric guitar for decoration on local buy-and-sell sites or even in charity shops.

I’ve seen ones with busted electronics, but decent strings pop up every now and then, and they’re usually dirt cheap since they don’t work. Music shops might also have some lying around—they’re worth asking.
Another thing you could try is checking out online music lessons on artmaster.com. Sometimes people there sell instruments for projects like this, or you might get ideas for how to make it look cool.
