How the Draupner Event shifted the engineering paradigmas
Permalink

The Draupner New Year Event  made clear that steep breaking waves of 25m size  do occur in open ocean with a frequency of about 4 times a year in almost any location.

What was considered a seamen legend before is now documented.

Many structures are designed for a much modest design wave height.

Their survival in open ocean now must be considered a merley "lucky cooincidence" not having encountered such waves yet.

Unexplained ship disappearance with no glue and SOS call are seen in a new light now...

Research has confirmed that waves of up to 35 meters (115 ft) in height are much more common than mathematical probability theory would predict using a Rayleigh distribution of wave heights.[citation needed] In fact, they seem to occur in all of the world's oceans many times every year. This has caused a re-examination of the reasons for their existence, as well as reconsideration of the implications for ocean-going ship design.

No New PostsTsunami - Draupner Wave - in depth info (Preview)Draupner Wave, freak wavesadmin4209

With Draupner Waves first time dedected by science and a Tsunami striking Japan the perception of worst case scenarios is changing for naval engineering. The task of settlement on the ocean in the sense of ocean colonization needs to take that into account.

The Draupner new year wave was the first registered freak wave (rogue wave) registered in history. It came out of nothing in a 12m wave ambient and had some 25m.   The Draupner wave or New Year's wave was the first rogue wave to be detected by a measuring instrument, occurring at the Draupner platform in...

Regular Windows PC or laptop users know the worth of a driver and how crucial it is to update these drivers. Drivers help Windows software to function properly, and hence, it is essential to update system drivers on time, but the job is pretty irritating when you use hundreds of software.
