Ships and oil rigs are oceangoing platforms for short term use, driven by extremly intense and expensive maintenance shedules.

What is needed is a floating platform that can stay maintenance free and with no drydock need for 200 years (minimum) on the ocean.

According to all technical studies - only concrete shell and honeycomb structures as the 50 structures built for the North Sea Oil / Gas development can handle that basic ocean colonization requirement.
