Why is the website design so terrible today?

Can anyone answer why websites today tend to have so much empty space, large text, large photos and apparently no organization that could guide the user?
You'll have to scroll endlessly to see everything, and by the time you get to the bottom, you'll have forgotten what was at the top. Previously, these were sites only for things like "how to meet girls", "how to lose weight", "how to spy on your neighbor", etc. It consisted of one large, seemingly endless page that had to be scrolled "forever". Now even your bank's website "treats" you with a useless image of a hero or two or four, past which you have to waste time to get useful material, which is now usually a large but very thin text with low contrast of light blue or gray on a white background, often without borders or lines grids and almost always display only 50-75% on the screen like what was shown earlier, requiring too much extra scrolling than before.
Why does the absence of grid lines/borders and why does all the wasted empty empty space lead to an extreme loss of organization and efficient use?

I think it's all because designers are already paid too much

I can't stand permanent sites where everything is done terribly. My eyes can't stand it, and I just don't understand how someone can do their work so terribly. We would have already turned to special services engaged in web design for the site to look decent. Maybe I'm just digging in, but based on the fact that you wrote this post, I'm not the only one. I hope that something will change soon and the quality of online sites will be better. I refuse to use those services that have a terrible interface.
