How Teachers Can Earn Extra Income by Sharing Their Experience and Expertise
Permalink

As most teachers will tell you, the recent drop in the economy has hit education hard. Teachers are being asked to do more and more with less and less. They are being asked to take cuts in salary while required to raise test scores and reach each of the ever-increasing number of students in the classroom. Unfortunately, because of the bad economy, many more teachers are looking for added sources of income. I know. I am one of those teachers.

I found myself looking to see how I can earn extra income. I needed to supplement the income that had been lost when economy dropped. Being the computer geek that I am, I went to look to see if I could make money online. I've made websites before, but not for money, just to help friends and family out. I didn't want to sell stuff on eBay. I didn't have a new invention or widget to sell, so I was getting frustrated, until it hit me. I've had my product all along.

I've had the privilege to be able to serve as a Master Teacher several times. A Master Teacher, as every teacher knows, is someone who serves as a trainer for college students who are entering the teaching field. They are called student teachers. Duh. As I was observing this student teacher, I noticed that she was making some very basic mistakes. These were mistakes that I probably made my first year too, but after years of experience, I just never made anymore. What my student teacher needed was some basic tips and strategies that I had learned over the years. That's when I realized I had my product to offer online. I could offer my expertise as a Master Teacher.

Now I'm trying to share what I've learned with every teacher I know. Some teachers have really been positive to the idea, but surprisingly, there are some teachers who just aren't interested. Many feel that it is too much work or that it is just another get rich quick scheme. I'm here to tell you that it isn't one of those. It's going to take time and work, but it is work that is easy and even fun to do, and if you are consistent, you can make some extra income. I'm proof that it is possible. Here is a quick overview of what you have to do.

1. Create a website - I know that many teachers out there don't know how to do this. Some believe that it takes an investment of thousands of dollars to hire a web designer to create an online presence for you, but they would be wrong. Perhaps in the past it may have been like this, but now you can create your own website for under $100. There are many sites online that provide help for teachers in the creation of websites. It's not that hard. Trust me.

2. Share your expertise - Just start adding to your website the information that you already know. Start writing as if you are teaching someone who doesn't know anything, but is interested in what you have to say. Try and add something every day.

3. Add Affiliate and AdSense links to your site - Affiliate links and AdSense links are links that people who visit your site will see and click on to find more information on the subject they are reading about. As an affiliate, you find a company that is selling a product that is related to your topic. You add a link to the product, and when someone purchases the product, you get paid a small commission. With AdSense links, Google checks your site out and places related links to businesses on your site, and when someone clicks to find out more, you get paid. Affiliate links and AdSense links are one way to earn income, but it's not a lot. Don't think you're going to pay off your mortgage with affiliate or AdSense links. You won't. There are people who do make a lot of money with just these kinds of strategies, but that's not what we're talking about in this article. There is a way, however that you can make a decent amount of extra income with your site. Check out number 4.

4. Write an E-Book - Some of you may be shaking your head about this. "I can't write an e-book. I don't know the first thing about writing an e-book." You may be thinking of all the obstacles, but I'm here to tell you that it's a lot easier than you think. All you have to do is compile everything that you're posting on your website, and repackage that into an e-book and sell it on your site. "But why would people buy an e-book when they can just read what I've posted on my site?" I know. That's what I said too. What I learned, however, is that people are lazy, and they're willing to pay $29.95 or whatever you want to charge for an easy-to-read, organized, complete product of what you've been sharing for free instead of looking through all your lessons online.

That's how you make money online with your experience and expertise as teachers.

But that's not all!

Once you go through the process of creating a website from what you know about teaching, you will see how easy it is. Now you can create a website about something that is not related to teaching. If you're into golf or horses or knitting or surfing, you can create a website using the same strategies you did for your teacher website, and make additional income from a topic that you are passionate about.

It's not a get-rich-quick plan. It's a work hard now, earn extra income later on. The hardest part of all of this is getting started.

Why is this is such a great opportunity for teachers? I'm glad you asked that question. The answer is because we teachers have a specific and unique skill that gives us an advantage when sharing information online. WE KNOW HOW TO TEACH.

Teachers have been trained through college, specialized training courses, and years of experience to take complicated concepts and make them understandable. We are experts in communication. People will read what we put on our websites, because it will be something that they will be able to grasp. We are equipped with the ability to simplify the confusing. It's part of our training. It's something that will give us an advantage when sharing our expertise online.

I encourage you to get started right away.

It's time to earn extra income. We all could use some extra income. Teachers, for all we do, we deserve to earn extra income.

Start today.
