On the question "What is a Seastead?" a comment on Seasteading.org (http://www.seasteading.org/forum-list/topic/from-trash-to-home/page/5/#post-23875)

For the phase we are in i would be willing to declare “Halfway to Seastead” anything that applies more or less to the following 5 points: - It is on the water. - You can make a living with it or on it. - You can sleep on it and live on it at least for some time. - It has “transition capacity” to grow into a full blown Seastead in the future. - It will not sink due to corrosion and rott in a few months but stays afloat at least a century without depending on refresh of bottom paint in a drydock so has “real estate quality” in contrast to “boat quality” or “veggy raft” quality. So on contrary to what was postulated (there is no seastead at the moment) i see many things converging to become Seasteads in a future. (Yachts, Floating Marinas, Oil/Gas installatios, floating houses, Floating harbor terminals, Monaco style breakwaters, floating aquaculture installations, Cruiseships, etc.etc…) I postulate that Seasteading is among us already in many forms developing along multiple axes… Read more about the axis of seasteading: http://concretesubmarine.activeboard.com/f544143/the-axes-of-ocean-colonization-surface/ The discussion about what is a seastead and what not is basicly useless, it is like discuting about what is Homo Sapiens – there are thousands of generations of evolution developing slowly towards it (and some will ask if Homo Sapiens is among us today already…) – the day when the first seastead is born does not exist as the day when the first Homo Sapiens was born does not exist. What exists is “a path that leads to something” and many paths that lead to nothing – (see Tanka stagnation). And what exists also is a convergance of reasons why ocean colonization will be the next big thing to come…
